This landmark in central Lucerne bridges the past and present
The name Lucerne immediately conjures up the Chapel Bridge in the city center. Together with its octagonal water tower which is a good 110 feet tall, it is the pride of Central Switzerland – as it should be! In the 14th century, it was constructed as part of the city’s defenses and today is the oldest covered wooden bridge in Europe. The paintings under its roof tell historic tales of Switzerland and Lucerne.
